2010/2011 LEAGUES AND FIXTURES

1st XV: London 2 South West
A XV: London 1 South Reserve League and RugbyTech League 3B
Extra A XV: Surrey Reserve League Combination 2
B1 XV: Surrey Reserve League Foundation

Hello and welcome to the 2010/2011 season at Old Reigatian RFC. This season we will endeavour to field SIX senior sides albeit two less regularly, those being our "Non-Descripts" XV (Vets) and our U21 side (who will play in the Surrey U21 competition).  This season notes another historic chapter at this successful club: after a long wait we will finally move into our new clubhouse!

On the ground floor the new clubhouse will provide six changing rooms, two referees changing rooms and fully functioning treatment suite and a state of the art gym.

On the first floor we will get to relax in a modern club room complete with new, longer bar (less time queueing for drinks on busy match days!). Spectators will enjoy the view from the balcony where they can over look the new 1st XV field on match days.

This season our 1st XV will ply their trade in London 2SW. After the last two seasons traveling to Sussex and Kent, we are back in our "home turf" and look forward to re-igniting our rivalries with Effingham and Leatherhead and, more especially, our friends at Guernsey. Our trip to Footes Lane falls early this season on the 18th September and this time round it will be played under floodlights, kicking off at 6pm. We also look forward to some new competition with fixtures against Guildford, Bognor and Twickenham.

Our A XV will test themselves this season playing in two leagues: the London 1 South Reserve League and the Rugby Tech League 3 B. There is a lot of rugby to be played for the "Champagne 2's" but I am assured that they will rise to the task and fulfil their destiny.

The Extra A XV will look to capitalise on their successes of last season as they look for their second promotion in a row. Having been promoted to Surrey Reserve League Combination 2 they will face a sterner task this year against the likes of KCS Old Boys 3rds, Warlingham 3rds and Cobham 3rds.

This season sees the B1's rise again like a phoenix from the ashes. I cannot remember when we last fielded four competitive sides (neither can John Lister for that matter!) and I look forward to hearing about their escapades both on and off the field. Good luck in the Surrey Reserve League Foundation.

ALL PLAYERS OF ANY STANDARD WELCOME

We have set our goals this year: to run four weekly, inclusive, competative senior sides. That means WE NEED YOU. Can you run? Can you catch? If the answer is yes then you can play rugby and you can play at Old Reigatians. So if you're an old player, newly retired or just always fancied a game come down and make yourself available.

PRE-SEASON TRAINING

I am told by all that pre-season preparations continue to build and to date have gone very well. We are regularly getting between 35 - 40 bodies every Tuesday and Thursday (I'm sure the good weather has something to do with it); those in attendance are being put through their paces by our new coaching team for this season.

Phil Williams steps into the Head Coach role vacated by Dave Wiggins departure at the end of last season. Phil brings with him a new "young" approach with a wealth of championship rugby experience having played at Exeter and Plymouth Albion.

We are delighted to welcome Steve Wagstaff to the club as Assistant Coach. Steve will be well known to many of you as prior to joining Reigatians he was Head Coach at local rivals Warlingham. Steve is very well respected within Surrey and the south London area and also coaches within the Surrey County set up.

We are also delighted to welcome Alan Reid onto the coaching staff this year. Up until this year Alan was Director of Sport at Reigate Grammar School where he had taught for almost forty, yes, forty years! Alan has extensive knowledge of rugby and is involved in the coaching teams at Harlequins Academy and within the London and South East Junior setup. Alan will fulfil a assistant / development coaching role with a skills based focus.

We believe that our coaching set up is one of the strongest in the area and we welcome success both on and off the field for the coming season.
