Since Eric Smith first inaugurated The 150 Club in 1965, many thousands of pounds have been raised. Once the prizes have been paid,
the entire balance is used for the benefit of the Rugby Club. The Trustees are always mindful that the general and anticipated
running costs of the club are met from subscriptions and bar profits. This has enabled them to fund many capital purchases that
would not have been possible purchases for the Rugby Club out of its very limited profits.
The principle behind this type of Members Club is that the legal maximum of some 47% of the money raised is distributed to the
members, with the balance being used from time to time to fund purchases with the approval of both the Rugby Club Committee
and the 150 Club Trustees.
At the present time the prize fund of £4,100.00 is distributed with 2 prizes of £1,000.00, 4 prizes of £300.00 and 12 prizes of £75.00.
The subscription is £60.00 per annum. This can be paid quarterly or half yearly if more convenient. The draw is scheduled to take
place twice a year at a suitable Club event.
The total list of purchases that have been made is very extensive and amongst them, the writer recalls:
- At least two refurbishment's of the kitchen, and one of the Bar,
- The power cable supply to and the provision of the Training Floodlights.
- Purchase of two commercial Tractors over the last 30 years
- Gang Mowers and many other assorted ground maintenance machines.
- The Rhino Scrummaging machine.
- The Television Projector and Big Screen.
- The new Goal Posts, Post protectors and Touch line post.
A more complete list of the uses to which the money raised by this Club has been expended will be supplied on request.
We now need a sales drive to increase the membership and would welcome any one interested to join with Steve Jenner, Geoff Brown
and myself in seeking out supporters who might be interested in joining. The 150 Club Annual subscription
includes your non-playing membership of the Rugby Club.
